Some journeys begin before you reach the first Irish road. They take shape in Cherbourg harbour, as your car enters the ferry’s vehicle deck and the horizon takes the place of the windscreen. On arrival in Rosslare, your luggage is already with you: all that remains is to choose a direction, a stop or a landscape to linger over.
For a short break, Brittany Ferries is offering crossings from €342 return for a car and two people. Checked on 19 October 2026, the offer is worth considering in the context of the trip’s overall budget.
A return sea crossing with your car
What the €342 fare includes
The headline price applies to Cherbourg–Rosslare, two passengers and a standard car measuring no more than 5 m long and 1.83 m high. Lounge seats and the SEQE surcharge are included; a cabin costs extra, as do meals and accommodation in Ireland.
The same number of passengers must travel on both journeys. The family fare starts at €418 return for two adults, two children under 15 and a car.
Dates and restrictions to note
Crossings must be taken by 30 April 2027, with a maximum stay of 174 hours. The offer applies to new bookings, subject to availability, and excludes foot passengers and bicycles. Supplements apply in particular to vehicles exceeding the standard dimensions, trailers and pets. Vehicles measuring 6 m by 2.6 m are excluded.
No specific booking deadline has been announced: the operator may withdraw the offer. The final quote is definitive.
The right calculation: compare the whole trip
A cabin can change the comfort of the crossing
A seat and a cabin do not serve the same purpose. Before choosing, consider your actual departure times, the time spent on board and the route you plan to take after disembarking. The cost of somewhere to sleep can affect the quote, but also how you make the most of your first day.
Apply the same calculation to flying: add up tickets for all travellers, the luggage you need and any car hire. For the ferry, also factor in the journey to Cherbourg, fuel, tolls and on-board spending. The most suitable option depends on where you are departing from and your itinerary.
Bring what you need, then keep your itinerary lighter
Travelling with your own vehicle means you can retain familiar comforts and organise your luggage around your stay. Walking shoes, rainwear, children’s belongings: pack what you will need on board in a separate small bag, following the ship’s guidance on access to the vehicle deck.
For a short week away, focusing on one region can also reduce road costs and accommodation changes. A more compact itinerary leaves more room for an extended visit, a walk decided on that very morning or a warm break when the weather calls for a slower pace.
Rosslare, a gateway to south-east Ireland
Start in County Wexford
The trip can be planned around your arrival point. County Wexford brings together beaches, heritage and coastal scenery, inviting you to explore the surrounding area before covering greater distances. The Hook Peninsula and its lighthouse, in particular, offer a thread to follow for a coast-focused break.
Near Wexford, the Irish National Heritage Park features reconstructions from different periods of Irish history in a wooded setting. Visit Wexford places it around 30 minutes from Rosslare Europort: a possible stop to adapt to opening times and everyone’s energy levels after the crossing.
Book your nights after confirming the ferry
Start by getting a quote for dates that suit you, then check the available accommodation locally and its cancellation terms. This double check avoids building an itinerary around a sea fare that ultimately does not match your departure.
Read the official terms and conditions of the Brittany Ferries offer before paying. If your plans fall outside this package, also compare the standard fares available through our partner button: only the final quote will show which option suits you best.
