On 24 October 2026, the IFI and EGG Cabaret bring together cult films and a party as part of Horrorthon.

A prom dress, a crown and memories of a film spiralling into nightmare: in Dublin, cinema takes to the dance floor. On Saturday 24 October 2026, the Irish Film Institute joins forces with queer collective EGG Cabaret for a Prom Night combining screenings, performance and a party. A distinctive way to embrace the run-up to Halloween in the heart of Temple Bar.

A prom where cinema sets the tone

Evening wear and cabaret spirit

According to the official event description, guests will be able to take photos before the screenings and meet the candidates for prom king and queen. Audiences are invited to wear their finest prom attire or come in costume.

After the screenings, EGG Cabaret will present a performance before its DJs take over. The appeal of the event lies in this change of roles: after watching the characters navigate their high-school night, audiences themselves become the guests at a prom. This remains, however, a film celebration for adults.

Carrie, Jennifer’s Body or The Loved Ones: choose your screening

Three films scheduled almost simultaneously

The evening features Jennifer’s Body at 8.30 pm, Carrie at 8.40 pm and The Loved Ones at 8.50 pm. These times overlap, so you will need to choose your film when booking rather than expect to see all three.

The first revisits the bond between two high-school friends through possession and horror; the second turns the school prom into the setting for a humiliation that became one of the genre’s most famous images. The third takes a rejected date into a particularly violent Australian nightmare. Three very different visions of the same social promise: an unforgettable night out.

Five days exploring horror cinema in Dublin

A highlight of IFI Horrorthon

Prom Night forms part of the IFI Horrorthon, from 22 to 26 October 2026. The festival brings together new releases, classics and late-night screenings. Its programme includes a focus on folk horror, a form of cinema in which rural landscapes, beliefs and communities become sources of unease.

Another event takes place on Monday 26 October, when musician Stephen Horne provides a live accompaniment to the silent film The Cat and the Canary. Together, these events offer the chance to build a cultural break around several forms of the genre, from cinema heritage to collective celebration. The programme presented by the IFI sets out the different events.

How can you attend Prom Night?

Tickets, age limit and address

The event takes place at the Irish Film Institute, 6 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. The festival is for those aged 18 and over. For Prom Night, the IFI lists tickets at €20 for members and €22 for non-members; availability is subject to capacity.

The festival’s general pass does not include this event or its screenings. Book your chosen screening through the official box office, then check the information on your ticket before setting off. To complete your stay, see our selection of Halloween festivities getting under way in Ireland.
