A November evening in Galway can take on the taste of a roasted chestnut. At Alma, the Portuguese Magusto finds a table far from its country of origin. Just a few streets away, other cooks and artisans invite visitors to try hot chocolate in a different way or take home a fermented preparation. Blas na Samhna can be discovered from one table to the next, just as the days grow shorter and menus shift with the season.

Events in restaurants, cafés and workshops

Blas na Gaillimhe, the network that also organises the spring event Blas na Bealtaine, invites chefs, restaurateurs and producers from Galway and the county to create experiences rooted in the season. The festival has no single venue: depending on the day, you might book a workshop, a tasting or a dinner. In 2026, its collaboration with Gaillimh Ah-Boo! gave the first events a Samhain feel, followed in November by offerings that also draw on other culinary traditions.

What to taste at Blas na Samhna in November 2026?

Fermentation, hot chocolate and Portuguese traditions

On 8 November, Aniar welcomes Ivonka Kwiek from Sage and Lovage for a workshop on foraging and fermentation, where participants prepare a drink to take away. On 10 November, Grá Chocolates offers a hot-chocolate tasting at Korner Café in the Latin Quarter. On 13 November, Alma brings together chestnuts, stories and music for Magusto, a Portuguese autumn festival.

On 19 November, Tom Sheridan’s in Knocknacarra is hosting a four-course seasonal dinner with wine pairings. For a family outing, Aniar is also offering something for younger guests aged 7 to 15 in November, subject to conditions and accompanied by an adult. Check availability and the terms of this offer directly with the restaurant.

How to organise your visit

Choose a venue and book directly with it

The edition’s programme runs until 30 November 2026. Check the Blas na Gaillimhe programme and the page for the venue that interests you: dates, prices and bookings should be checked for each individual event. For a short stay, choose a tasting or workshop before dinner, ideally in the same neighbourhood. If you have an allergy or a specific dietary requirement, ask the venue whether the planned menu can be adapted before booking.
