Meta’s chief responds to comments prompted by his tasting on John Collison’s podcast.

A dark glass, a creamy head, a few seconds of silence: that was all it took. Appearing on the Cheeky Pint podcast, Mark Zuckerberg raises a Guinness to his lips. His expression immediately became a story everyone felt they could tell. Meta’s chief had come to discuss technology; social media preferred to scrutinise the way he drank an Irish beer.

A sip becomes an event

The podcast behind the clip

The sequence comes from an interview with John Collison, the Irish entrepreneur and co-founder of Stripe. Seated alongside Alexandr Wang, Zuckerberg takes part in this conversational format centred around a pint. A clip was shared on X on 12 October 2026; commenters turned his expression into a supposed verdict on Guinness.

On 13 October, he replied: That’s just my face. The line is brief, and usefully places a limit on collective interpretation. A filmed expression cannot establish someone’s tastes, let alone confirm that it was their first Guinness.

Why the scene works so well

When the pint becomes a character

The comic effect lies in the mismatch: a leader associated with the world’s major digital platforms finds himself judged on an entirely ordinary gesture. The contrast alone is enough to fuel the parodies. For viewers, the interview may disappear behind a second of hesitation; for the person on camera, that second becomes difficult to take back.

The Guinness gives the scene an instantly recognisable silhouette. In this small digital comedy, the glass has almost as much presence as the person drinking from it. This is one reading of the clip’s success, not proof that Meta’s chief intended to take part in a ritual or send a message to Ireland.

What the video tells us — and what it does not

Returning to the full conversation

To form an opinion, the most useful thing is still to return to the original podcast. The clip is genuinely linked to this programme; the suggestion that it reveals disgust comes from the comments. Nor is there any reason to present the scene as a tasting filmed in an Irish pub without confirmation of the location.

For anyone planning a trip to Ireland, the story is above all a light-hearted introduction to the world of the pint. A tasting can remain a personal discovery, with no verdict to deliver and no performance to achieve. Online, a few seconds were enough to forget that simple freedom.
