Christmas isn’t just celebrated in Dublin: Galway also has its own Christmas market! Called the “Galway Christmas Market” in English, it’s one of the most eagerly awaited events every year! For the occasion, more than 50 chalets take over Eyre Square, illuminated in all their Christmas splendor and offering visitors a host of festive products and delicacies. A very warm event!
The Galway Christmas Market offers a host of activities to delight young and old alike! Beyond the simple pleasure of strolling through the chalets, and discovering the handcrafted products on offer, you can enjoy a nice cup of chocolate or mulled wine, while dancing to Christmas carols until the end of the night!
The market also features merry-go-rounds (including a carousel with old-fashioned wooden horses), Santa’s express train, and a Ferris wheel, which stands 32 meters high: you’ll overlook the whole city of Galway, and enjoy the market’s Christmas lights. A magical moment for the whole family!
As for the children, they’ll no doubt be squinting at the toys on sale at the stalls, and insisting on leaving their letter to Santa by posting it in “Santa’s Grotto”. Puppet shows are also available!
