Tullynally Castle (also known as Pakenham Hall Castle) is a magnificent 17th-century fortified castle less than 2 km from the village of Castlepollard. Built in pure Georgian style, the château is worthy of a fairytale, with its multiple turrets and 2-hectare garden planted with trees!

History of Tullynally Castle

A family castle

Before the château was built, there was a fortified square tower of medieval origin. It was used to house the region’s garrisons and keep an eye on the surrounding area. It remained in use until the 17th century, when it was finally demolished to make way for a larger castle belonging to the Pakenham family. More than ten generations of this family have lived at the château, including squires, barons and counts. Each generation has left its own mark on the château, bequeathing their furniture, paintings and stone monuments to their successors.

Today, the château is open to visitors. Owner Thomas Pakenham welcomes the public with open arms, to share his family’s heritage.
