2020 Six Nations Tournament: Jonathan Sexton Out for the First Two Matches

Ireland without their fly-half for matches against Scotland and Wales

It’s bad news for the Irish Rugby team. As the 2020 Six Nations Tournament approaches, it seems that Ireland’s international fly-half Jonathan Sexton will be sidelined for the first two matches of the competition.

Injured in his right knee during the Champions Cup match between Leinster and Northampton, Jonathan Sexton appears unlikely to participate in the Six Nations opener. This is a major setback for the Irish rugby squad, whose cohesion and effectiveness often rely on the presence of their talented fly-half.

The news reportedly leaked in the Irish daily The Irish Independent, which states that Sexton’s absence will be longer than initially expected. According to the publication, Jonathan Sexton is suffering from a tear in his right knee, preventing him from playing rugby for the coming weeks.

As a result, Ireland will face Scotland and then Wales without Jonathan Sexton. Although the Irish team is generally very competitive against these two opponents, this will be a weakened Ireland side, still recovering from their defeat at the 2019 Rugby World Cup and missing one of their key players as they start the tournament.
