Ireland is currently mourning the loss of one of its greatest singers, Sinéad O’Connor. To mark the occasion, her hometown of Bray offered a vibrant tribute. A few hours before her funeral, the town set up an installation entitled “ÉIRE ♡ SINEAD”. Placed on a hill above Bray in County Wicklow, it takes the form of white letters, which, seen from the sky, form the message “ÉIRE ♡ SINEAD”. A magnificent commemoration, paying homage to one of the greatest Irish artists the Emerald Isle has ever borne!m
In just a few days, a message in white letters took shape on the green hills of Ireland. In a style reminiscent of World War II signage, this message of love is intended as a reminder of the powerful relationship between Ireland and Sinéad O’Connor.
For it was here, in Bray, that the singer spent many years of her life. Very attached to the town, she considered it her home and refuge.
The installation has already caused quite a stir, and was created by Dublin-based creative agency The Tenth Man.
The letters have been installed next to the “ÉIRE” letters, which date back to the Second World War and were once used to signal to pilots that they were flying over Ireland.
This tribute is intended to show the world what Sinéad O’Connor symbolized for the island of Ireland.
Made entirely from recycled plastic, the new letters will be removed on Sunday evening.
The funeral will be held this Tuesday in Bray. A procession will line the waterfront. The procession will be open to the public wishing to pay their last respects. The funeral, meanwhile, will be private and will take place in a small gathering with the singer’s family.
