It’s the same every year: the Orange Parades shake up the city of Belfast in July and August. These events, heavily covered by the media, systematically raise a question among tourists: is it really safe to venture into Belfast during a period of Orange parades?

The answer is simple: Belfast is not a dangerous city in itself… as long as you don’t venture into the high-risk areas (Catholic and Protestant). So prefer more neutral areas, and avoid risky situations, or raising the subject of the Northern Irish conflict with the local population (a blunder can happen very quickly)…

By following this simple, common-sense rule, you should be able to have a trouble-free holiday!
