Netflix has just apologized after posting a tweet deemed “unacceptable” on one of its Twitter accounts. A tweet that referred to her series called “The New Adventures of Sabrina” and featured scenes of her actors covered in blood, with the caption “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. A tweet deemed light-hearted and offensive to Irish history…
The Tweet has now been deleted but attracted dozens of comments from angry Irish people. For many, it’s unacceptable for the VOD leader to use one of the darkest moments in Irish history to post a light-hearted, humorous tweet. Although many put this clumsiness down to ignorance, the tweet nevertheless created quite a stir.

The message remained on the networks for over 13 hours before being deleted. Netflix immediately stepped in, issuing a statement to apologize and put an end to the controversy.
Our tweet was unacceptable and has since been deleted. We are deeply sorry for the pain and distress he may have caused the Irish people.
As a reminder, the term “Bloody Sunday” refers to two episodes in Irish history: the first in 1920, when the Auxillaries and the Black and Tans opened fire on the crowd at a Gaelic soccer match in Dublin, killing over 30 people.
The second Bloody Sunday occurred on January 30, 1972 in Londonderry, when British forces opened fire on a pacifist civil rights march, killing 14 people.
These two episodes have left an indelible mark on Irish history and culture. Considered a truly sensitive subject, Bloody Sunday evokes for many people injustice, violence and the balance of power with the British. A centuries-old conflict, now pacified… but the Irish have not forgotten…
