The news made the buzz last week. A mysterious bottle, launched from Ireland, was discovered by an Irish-American in New Jersey after 4 years wandering the world’s waters. The identity of the message’s mysterious author was the subject of much speculation. For the message, in perfect condition, was simply signed with the name Aiofe.
But the enigma now seems to have been solved: after much communication on the Web, the identity of the young Irishwoman has been revealed: it’s Aoife Byrne… and she’s even been in contact with the American who found her message!
Frank Bolger never thought he’d have such an adventure picking up litter on a beach in the USA. While surveying the area with his wife, he came across a bottle in the sea… containing a message signed by someone called Aoife.
The message, perfectly legible, said to come from Ireland, and would have been launched in 2019.
Curious, Frank Bolger didn’t hesitate to relay his discovery in the press and on the Web (thanks to Wildwood Sun by the Sea magazine), seeking to discover Aoife’s identity.
And it looks like his research has paid off! The Irish woman behind the message is said to be called Aoife Byrne and to live in County Wicklow. Her father came across the information and immediately made the connection with his own daughter.
For him, there was no doubt: his daughter, Aoife, was the source of the message! After comparing the handwriting, the father contacted his daughter to ask if she had thrown a bottle into the sea 4 years ago…
To which she would have replied in the affirmative!
The latter then contacted the American who had found his famous bottle. First by e-mail, then by phone!
An unexpected contact, which would have delighted both parties!
The icing on the cake: Frank Bolger is even planning to travel to Ireland in the next few years to meet her!
