This week, a study by The Economist Intelligence Unit unveiled the top list of the world’s most expensive cities. And the verdict is rather surprising: Dublin ranks 19th out of 133 cities surveyed. This would put it ahead of London, now relegated to 30th place.
For this survey, the researchers used a panel of everyday products, ranging from food and drink to rents and the cost of clothing sold locally.
Dublin, which is currently in the midst of an economic boom, is seeing its average cost of living literally explode. This is a double-edged sword that could make it less attractive, especially for foreign students.
When it comes to the decline in the city of London, The Economist Intelligence Unit justifies this fall due to the vote in favor of Brexit. This would have contributed to a fall in the value of sterling, making the cost of living more affordable.
