A talented, often discreet guitarist who takes a back seat to his explosive sisters!

James Steven Ignatius Corr, nicknamed “Jim”, is a prominent member of the family band The Corrs. As a guitarist, he plays alongside his sisters, Andrea, Caroline and Sharon, and has enjoyed success since the 1990s. Jim Corr’s career has been faltering of late, but he remains a household name in Ireland and abroad.

Life and career of Jim Corr

The eldest of an Irish sibling with a passion for music

Jim Corr was born on July 31, 1964 in the small Irish town of Dundalk (Co. Louth).

He is the eldest in the family, followed by 3 other sisters. The children soon discovered their passion for the world of music. Everyone finds their instrument of choice: Jim chooses the guitar (and accordion). He guided his sisters in their learning of music theory and composition.

From their early teens, the siblings played in Irish pubs in and around Dundalk. They perform at weddings, and begin to make a name for themselves. Their talent, coupled with Andrea Corr’s voice, quickly landed them a record deal.

Their first album, “Forgiven not Forgotten”, was released in 1995. The whole world meets this astonishing group, and is moved by this particularly close-knit family group.

Jim, however, is discreet: although a pillar of the group, he tends to take a back seat to his sisters. Nevertheless, he ensures the group’s musical solidity, and looks after his family with great care.

Album after album followed: “Talk on Corners” in 1997, then “In Blue” in 2000… The band literally exploded onto the scene: success was theirs, thanks to their skilful blend of pop, rock and traditional Irish influences. The result is a series of intimate, punchy tracks that give the band real exposure.

International tours followed.

The “Borrowed Heaven” album was released in 2004… and the Corrs decided to take a break in 2006. Each member wished to devote themselves to personal projects and refocus on their respective spouses and children. Some even tried solo careers (including Andrea and Sharon), but Jim remained shy, concentrating instead on his personal life.

The band eventually reformed in 2015 and released 2 albums: “White Light” in 2015 and “Jupiter Calling” in 2017. Their comeback was timid and did not meet with the success of their debut. But they can count on a community of fans from the early days, who are loyal to their post and appreciate their new songs.

They then embarked on a series of tours, giving them a further opportunity to meet their audience.

Since then, life for the group has slowed considerably. In 2023, The Corrs remained surprisingly quiet, mainly playing concerts around the world. No new album planned for the moment.

Personal life

In 2006, Jim Corr became engaged to former Miss Great Britain Gayle Williamson, with whom he has a baby boy named Brandon. A relationship that was not to last, as Gayle Williamson announced in an interview with the British press that Jim had just ended their relationship.

Another fact: Jim Corr generated a real bad buzz during the Covid-19 years by posting conspiracy theories. A staunch anti-vaxer, he had created controversy with his anti-mask views, and used the occasion to assert that climate disruption didn’t exist… These outbursts sparked off a storm of reactions, even prompting other Irish stars to intervene and tone down the claims.

Since then, Jim Corr has been much less outspoken in the media, leading a discreet and peaceful life in Ireland, far from the controversy.
