Ray Stevenson is a Northern Irish actor whose versatility and talent have made him popular in both film and television. Born on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, Ireland, and dying prematurely on May 21, 2023, this actor is famous for playing the famous Titus Pullo in the Rome series, Othere in the Vikings series, or for starring in blockbusters such as Thor. Life and career of Ray Stevenson

Debuts

Ray Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland, but spent part of his childhood in England. He soon developed a passion for literature and theater, and set his sights on becoming an actor.

He then launched his career on the stage. After studying acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), he appeared in several plays before making the leap to the small screen.

His first television appearances were rather discreet. He appeared in series such as “The Bill” and TV movies such as “The Dwelling Place”.

Breakthrough in Hollywood

Ray Stevenson’s big break came when he was cast and cast as Titus Pullo in the hit HBO series “Rome” (2005-2007). He stars alongside Kevin McKidd as Lucius Vorenus.

The duo works wonderfully together, and Ray Stevenson is widely recognized for his impressive build, tall stature, piercing eyes and charmingly good-natured smile. His character, full of humor and lightness, presents him as a bon vivant who loves war and women. It’s a character that immediately wins her the public’s sympathy!

The role earned him international recognition and opened the door to film opportunities.

Many compare him to Russell Crowe, both in stature and charm. It has to be said that his piercing gaze, beguiling smile and muscular build make him an utterly charming figure.

He then entered the exclusive world of Hollywood, and went on to work on such films as “King Arthur” (2004), “Punisher: War Zone” (2008) and the blockbuster “Thor” (2011), where he played the character of Volstagg.

Buoyed by his success, he returned to the small screen, starring in a number of popular series. He can be seen in the Black Sails series (a show about pirates), as well as in the huge Vikings series(which was filmed in Ireland).

A death that marked the world of cinema

Sadly, the Northern Irish actor passed away prematurely following an illness.

It all happened in May 2023, when Ray Stevenson was shooting in Italy for the film “Cassino in Ischia”, directed by Frank Ciota. His health deteriorated sharply, and he died in Ischia hospital.

He was 58 years old.

Since then, one tribute after another has commemorated the illustrious Northern Irish actor. His talent, professionalism and unforgettable face have made him a popular figure in film and TV.
