The Elders - flickrized - cc

The Elders are a traditional Irish music group. Very popular in Ireland, the band now has 6 members (their guitarist Steve Phillips having unfortunately succumbed to Covid-19), and has recorded 12 albums (8 in the studio and 4 live). Their music is a fine example of authentic music, with its roots in Irish culture and history. These soulful songs will immediately transport you to the Emerald Isle!

The Elders’ career

The Elders story began in 1998. The group is then composed of :

  • by Ian Byrne, from County Wicklow in Ireland,
  • guitarist Steve Phillips,
  • bassist Norm Dahlor,
  • violinist and keyboardist Brent Hoad,
  • drummer Kian Byrne
  • and violinist Colin Farrell.

The quality of their albums soon caught the public’s attention. They pay a vibrant tribute to Ireland’s musical heritage, alternating emotionally-charged acapella vocals (as in the song “Men of Erin”) with lighter, craic-inducing dance numbers.

Their success has taken them to numerous festivals, Irish pubs, theaters and concert halls across Ireland, as well as the USA and other European countries.

Unfortunately, in 2018, the band stopped touring regularly. And on September 30, 2020, the band had to announce the death of its guitarist Steve Phillips… A situation which, for the moment, has brought the group to a halt.
