Van Morrison, born George Ivan Morrison, is an Irish singer, songwriter, musician and record producer.

He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 31, 1945, to George and Violet Morrison. His mother is a singer and his father plays the saxophone and clarinet.

Morrison grew up in a very musical household and was exposed to a wide range of music from an early age.

Musical debut

From an early age, Morrison was drawn to American blues and jazz. He is particularly inspired by artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Redding and Ray Charles. He is also deeply influenced by Irish folk music and the songs of his parents’ generation. This unique blend of styles is what would later make his music so unique and timeless.

Van Morrison began playing musical instruments and composing at an early age. He began writing his own songs and playing guitar at the age of 12.

He was soon performing in local Irish pubs and clubs.

He signed his first record contract in 1964, aged just 19, and released his first album, “Blowin’ Your Mind”, in 1967. This album contains some of his most iconic songs, such as “Brown Eyed Girl” and “T.B. Sheets”.

The album was a huge success, propelling Morrison to international stardom.

He continued this success with the release of his second album, “Astral Weeks”, in 1968. This album was even more successful than the first, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest records of all time. This album contains some of his most timeless songs, such as “Moondance” and “Into the Mystic”.

He has also received numerous Grammy Awards, and was awarded an honorary doctorate fromQueen’s University Belfast.

Morrison has also received numerous other prestigious awards, including the Ivor Novello Prize, the Brit Award and the Polar Music Prize. He has also been awarded the Order of the British Empire, one of the UK’s highest honors.
