As tributes continue to pour in following the death of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, announced on Thursday July 27, we wanted to take a look back at one of her last musical appearances… Did you know that the 56-year-old singer was chosen to sing the theme song for season 7 of Outlander, currently airing on Netflix? The Irish artist gave an exceptional performance, which was acclaimed by both the production team and fans of the series!
Every season, the famous Outlander series, about Scottish actor Jamie Fraser and his wife Claire, has a tradition of finding a new performer for its theme song.
And this season 7 has a special flavour, as the theme song was performed by the great Sinéad O’Connor, a few months before her death. She is undoubtedly the most famous artist to have been chosen to sing the theme song for the series!

And the performance was moving… The artist paid tribute to the show, delivering an emotional new version of the series’ theme!
Every episode of season 7 of Outlander features “The Skye Boat Song”. A unique performance, giving us the impression of discovering the song from a whole new angle!
We literally melt for her pure flights of fancy, her breaths strangled with emotion, and her restrained modesty.
For producer Matthew B; Roberts, the choice of this Irish musical icon was an obvious one:
Sinéad O’Connor has delivered a version that pierces the heart and soul – and embodies the spirit of the series. We are honored that Sinéad O’Connor has interpreted it. Her performance is, for me, a reminder of all that’s best about Outlander.
This interpretation will now take on a whole new meaning, following the artist’s death. It now sounds like one of the singer’s last artistic contributions, a few months before her death…
