Great Blasket Island, off the coast of Kerry, Ireland, is recruiting a couple for its janitor position for the 2025 season. This highly sought-after position involves managing a café and four vacation homes on the island, without electricity or hot water, in a fabulously wild setting. A demanding but exceptional position, which attracts thousands of applications every year! And today’s the last day to try your luck!
Would you like to be paid to live in autarky on a dream island in Ireland? That’s the promise that keeps coming back year after year! That’s because Great Blasket Island, a wild, green island famous for its sandy beaches, seals, seabirds and breathtaking scenery, is currently looking for new janitors! The job is simple: to welcome tourists who have also come to enjoy the island, away from the world. Tasks include looking after the accommodation, ensuring cleanliness, washing sheets, cleaning rooms, serving food and drinks and making sure everything runs smoothly on a daily basis. To do this, specific profiles are required: candidates must be hard-working, responsible and have good interpersonal skills. They must not be afraid of isolation, and of living without drinking water or electricity. Great Blasket Island is supplied with supplies every week to ensure the smooth running of life on site, but you need to be in good physical condition, and know how to touch everything to get out of any situation (being a handyman is a plus). The job, which runs from April 1 to October 1, can be demanding, as the island has few resources. Travel is not covered, and non-European citizens will need a work visa. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Irish is a plus. Days off depend on weather conditions, as crossings to the island may be cancelled. In high season, volunteers will help out in exchange for food and lodging. Janitors will share accommodation above the café, with all the necessary amenities. If you’re interested in this job too, hurry up and write your CV and cover letter. Don’t hesitate to stand out from the crowd and be original!
