The rankings are in: according to the Lonely Planet travel guide, Dublin is the must-see destination of 2022! For this, the Irish capital was ranked 7th in the world’s top tourist guide. A fine ranking, confirming Dublin’s strong appeal!
Lonely Planet had announced the color. To compile its list of the world’s top destinations, the guide had to take many parameters into account… Attractiveness, the activities on offer, the beauty of the area, its history and cultural interest… but also a not insignificant factor: ecology.
And Dublin is proud: according to Lonely Planet, the Irish capital offers a “great sustainable travel experience”.
Plans to pedestrianize certain parts of the city are likely to have weighed in the balance. According to Lonely Planet, Dublin can easily be explored on foot or by bike… What’s more, it’s one of Europe’s“most down-to-earth and friendly cities“.
The guide also mentioned Dublin’s strong cultural influence: from its large Georgian squares, to its century-old Irish pubs, to the unrivalled kindness of its inhabitants… not to mention Irish literature, which seems closely linked to the history of each district… For Lonely Planet, Dublin is a must-see city, to be added to its list of cities to discover in 2022!
In short: a fine distinction that makes the people of Dublin proud! Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons was quick to share his satisfaction on Twitter:
Dublin’s inclusion in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2022 is great news! It will surely help inspire travelers from all over the world to put Dublin and Ireland on their vacation wish list for next year.
Dublin will officially receive the award from Lonely Planet on Thursday.
For the record, Auckland, New Zealand, takes first place as the best city for 2022. It was praised for its“thriving cultural scene“.
