Bewley’s is a Dublin institution, where Dubliners and travelers alike enjoyed breakfast, tea and succulent pastries in an exceptional art deco setting. An address famous throughout the country, and which boasted of having been open since 1927…
Nevertheless, the company reluctantly announced its definitive closure in May 2020, as it was unable to cope with the costs of the COVID-19 containment period. This terrible news caused a stir among millions of Irish people and foreigners, who were very attached to the place.
Almost 4 months later, it’s a surprise: Bewley’s Café will finally reopen its doors on August 27! Saved from bankruptcy, the chain should be able to get back on its feet and offer its delicious pastries once again. In the first instance, Belwey’s should only offer its tea, coffee and cake services… A wider range of meals should follow a little later…
Dublin’s flagship business is set to reopen its doors by the end of August. Saved from closure for good, it retains its owners: Paddy and Cól Campbell. The latter issued a statement in which they declared themselves to be “.aware of the role Bewley’s plays in the hearts of visitors and Dubliners alike. We are delighted once again to play our part in the development of Dublin city center. It’s a return to life.”
The rebirth of a café that’s been around for almost 100 years!
This feat would not have been possible had Bewley’s not managed to pay over €749,000 in rent arrears and interest charges to Ronan Group Real Estate (RGRE), the café’s landlord.
