Energy consumption: an Irish pub offers a discount to anyone who keeps their coat on to eat!
Le Doyles Corner Pub

At a time when Ireland is in the throes of an energy crisis, one daring Irish pub has come up with an original idea for saving money. Doyles Corner Pub, an Irish pub in Dublin’s Phibsborough, has decided to turn off its heating every Tuesday… In return, they offer a 20% discount to customers for wearing their coats inside the pub. An unusual offer, which only concerns prices on food dishes (the price of drinks remains unchanged).

When a Dublin pub offers discounts… to limit heating consumption

A proposal greeted with astonishment by the local Irish people

As everyone knows, winter is going to be tough this year. The current geopolitical context is not without consequences, and will weigh heavily on the energy bill of every household in Europe.

Ireland is no exception, and many hotel managers are already questioning their ability to cope with rising energy costs…

Others, like the Doyles Corner Pub, are clever. They realized that turning off the heating once a week, while offering customers a 20% discount on the food they served, could potentially put them back on their feet.

A strategy that surprised and made Dubliners smile. For many people, having to wear their coat inside an Irish pub is a rather funny situation.

Eating in a coat in an Irish pub? I don’t mind, if I save a bit on the meal…” said Pete, a regular pub-goer from Dublin.

Everyone has to make an effort… It’s a small price to pay, and I think it’s an ingenious idea… said another Pub customer.

Nothing to scare or shock the Irish, who seem ready to play the concession card…

For their part, the Irish pub announced in a Facebook post that they would be turning off the heating every Tuesday in October… For the time being, the company has not indicated whether it will continue the operation in November and December…

Only the weeks to come will tell if their strategy has paid off!
