Euro 2028: the host countries will be Ireland and the United Kingdom
Euro 2028

UEFA announced on October 10 that Ireland and the United Kingdom will co-host the UEFA EURO 2028 Championships. This event represents a historic turning point for sport in these nations.

Ireland and the UK join forces to celebrate soccer…

A pioneering sports alliance

It’s a historic first: Ireland and the United Kingdom are to join forces to host one of soccer’s most prestigious competitions: Euro 2028.

A partnership that aims not only to celebrate soccer, but also to encourage participation and make the game more diverse and inclusive.

Ireland and the United Kingdom’s joint bid for Euro 2028 met with no opposition, as Turkey withdrew its bid to concentrate on Euro 2032 with Italy.

The Football Association of Ireland estimates that Euro 2028 will generate up to €3 billion in socio-economic benefits for the five nations involved, of which €241 million will be generated in Ireland.

Confirmed stadiums and an ambitious vision

Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Belfast’s Casement Park, still under construction, are among the confirmed venues for this prestigious event. Ireland’s Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has even pointed out that the UEFA EURO 2028 Championships will be “the biggest international sporting event ever held in Ireland.”

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he was “delighted” with the news, adding that it would be the biggest event ever organized jointly by the two islands.

Other political figures also emphasized the considerable economic and social benefits the event would bring, particularly in the tourism sector.

So Ireland will have to put in place the structures needed to welcome so many people, while at the same time reaping the benefits of local tourism. An opportunity to show Euro fans all the island has to offer… from its stadiums to its exceptional tourist sites!
