A brand new ferry service to Ireland has just been launched! Offered by DFDS, it links Dunkirk to Rosslare in Ireland. Good news for travellers, as France expands its routes to the Emerald Isle!
It’s official: as of August 5, DFDS will be launching a brand-new line on a trial basis, to complement its existing freight service. This offer is aimed primarily at travelers who want to reach Ireland by car, but also by camper van.
There are five routes per week to Ireland.
The 24-hour crossings offer all the usual services of a ferry trip. You can take a cabin for the night, and reserve a meal.
Prices start at €550 for a 4-passenger car with standard cabin and meals included. Prices can of course vary according to the level of service expected.
If this line works well, DFDS may well make the connection permanent.
Whatever the case, this news has been enthusiastically welcomed by the cities of Dunkirk and Rosslare, who see it as a new opportunity to promote international tourist and economic exchanges.
It’s also a significant advantage, allowing you to travel directly to Ireland, without having to cross the UK land bridge. A godsend at a time when the Brexit is tending to complicate entry into the country (identity cards are no longer sufficient to enter England, unlike the Republic of Ireland, which is still attached to the European Union).
