Baked Beans are an Anglo-Saxon specialty, often found in Irish breakfasts. These are white beans (or flageolets) cooked in a simmering tomato sauce. Often sold in tins, they’re a firm favourite with the Irish!
Baked Beans are most often eaten as part of an Irish breakfast, with toasted bread or soda farl (great for saucing!).
These beans are very popular in Ireland: tasty, inexpensive (less than a euro a tin), they keep you going all morning without feeling hungry.
They go perfectly with eggs, sausage or bacon, and are boiled, then baked in a tomato sauce flavored with herbs.
In Ireland, Baked Beans are marketed mainly by Heinz, under the name “Baked Beanz”. Slightly sweetened with tomato, they’re a hit with everyone!
