Galway, Ireland, has just been named “World’s Best Food Destination for the Year Ahead” by BBC Good Food magazine.
A distinction that makes the Irish particularly proud. BBC Good Food magazine investigated the world’s major cities to compile its rankings. The list includes the French city of Lyon and the Portuguese seaside resort of Porto.
But nothing seems to match Galway’s culinary creativity for 2020. The judges in charge of the ranking all agree that Galway is now the up-and-coming gastronomic city to watch. The quality of its products, and the expertise of its local craftsmen and restaurateurs, seems limitless. Their creativity flourishes, and their influences are manifold. Irish cuisine, world cuisine, modern influences, technical and masterful cooking… The inspiring combinations and flavours seem to have won over the judges!
Galway is a city on the move. She’s something of a shining new star in Ireland’s ever-expanding culinary firmament. wrote the inspirational BBC Good Food.
What better way to put the Irish city in the spotlight! The magazine recommends many local dishes, including Bruyère-cooked lamb, traditional local breakfasts, as well as a few addresses of well-known restaurants and street food outlets.
The icing on the cake: this distinction comes just in time for the year in which Galway will be officially named “European Capital of Culture”. Gastronomy will take pride of place, and could attract new gourmets in search of new experiences!
