No matter how many times we say it: for the Irish, Guinness is an almost sacred beer! And to mark the occasion, an Irishman has been creating a buzz since 2020, revealing on Twitter his original method for making perfect Guinness… from a can!
Forget the popular notion that Guinness is best served under pressure! This technique, it seems, produces a draught-quality beer… even though it comes straight out of a standard metal can! Enough to seduce fans of the genre, and inspire everyone to try serving a perfect pint… at home!

An Irishman proposes a simple technique for serving the perfect pint

A simple filmed tutorial!

In case you didn’t know, the Irish don’t mess around with the way a Guinness is served. For purists, not only must the temperature be maintained at 6°C, but the beer must also be poured in 2 batches… and the entire process must be completed in no more than 119.5 seconds! (In Ireland, we’re very meticulous!).

But all this was, of course, part of a pressurized service (with a nitrogen drum, and all the equipment, difficult to fit at home)…

Imagine the success of Owen Callan, an Irish Guinness enthusiast, who had the idea in 2020 of proposing a technique for pouring the perfect pint from a can!

His tutorial was posted on Twitter and was an immediate hit. His technique is as simple as it is unusual. Take a look:

To obtain a pint close to that of a draught beer, simply place the can head-first in the pint, and let it flow quietly. At some point, the beer stops flowing, and the “Guinness cascade” phenomenon kicks in.

Then, when half the pint seems to have settled sufficiently, simply wind up the can so that the liquid can continue to flow.

But be patient. Because waiting seems to be the key to perfect service. The cream will then form naturally and require a new application time.

It’s enough to make many enthusiasts want to try this new type of service… and have the impression of enjoying a pint worthy of an Irish pub… at home!
