The famous Irish beer Guinness has just been named “America’s most popular beer”. A recent YouGov study shows that Arthur Guinness’s stout is now the number 1 beer in the USA, beating out Bud Light, which usually tops the podium.
Who would have thought that one day Guinness would conquer international markets? Already a favorite in its native Ireland, it has also become a popular beer in countries such as Great Britain and Nigeria…
But there’s a real surprise in this new YouGov study, which reveals that Irish stout is now one of America’s top choices! As a result, dark beer achieved a popularity rating of 58%, successfully beating Corona (53%), Heineken (51%) and Samuel Adams (49%).
This makes it the most popular beer ordered in bars and Irish pubs, not to mention supermarkets.
Better still, and still according to the study, Guinness is even hated by only 9% of those questioned. Proof that the image of Irish beer remains particularly positive in the American consciousness.
These astonishing figures were obtained from a panel of 1,553 people, nationally representative of the American population.
These findings reward the active and impactful strategy of the Diageo Group, which currently owns Guinness. As a result, many Guinness breweries were established in the USA, and a whole range was developed to meet the expectations of American consumers, including lighter Guinnesses with “Americanized” aromas. The company has even developed Guinness 0.0, an alcohol-free beer that has been a great success not only in Ireland, but also in the United States.
It would seem, then, that dark beer is on a roll, beating out the usual American lagers.
One thing’s for sure: the most famous of Irish beers has a bright future ahead of it… and the Diageo Group intends to continue its development policy!
