It’s something we’ve all dreamed of: but only this couple has done it. Lesley Kehoe and her partner Gordon Bond left everything behind in February (work, family, home…) to go and live in isolation on Great Blasket Island, a wild Irish island off the Dingle Peninsula.
A crazy decision, but one that clearly didn’t sway their determination:
We’re leaving our jobs and moving to Great Blasket Island for the 2019 season. We’re either very crazy or very brave, maybe both. said Leslie on Twitter
The couple left everything behind to “make a better life for themselves”: escape from the stress of life, forget social pressure, the race for money, the waste of time… All this while reconnecting with the Irish wilderness!
Great Blasket Island is a magnificent place: authentic, wild and unspoilt. We love its postcard-perfect scenery, with lush green expanses, rocky cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean crashing its waves over the island every day.
A magical place that many dream of, but which is also known for its harsh winters. In 1953, the cold and damp got the better of the inhabitants, when the government ordered the definitive evacuation of all the island’s inhabitants.
So the couple set the bar very high when they chose to settle here: they set up a bed and breakfast in a cottage by the sea. Of course, everyone is welcome to reserve a place and enjoy the charms of the wilderness, digital disconnection and other simple pleasures!
Lesley regularly posts videos on her Twitter account, where she shares her small pleasures, admiring the beauty of the ocean, storms, steady rain, a sunrise… and so on. All the charm of Great Blasket!

If you’d like to join them for a short stay, their bed and breakfast is called“Le Peig Sayer’s Cottage“, named after the famous Irish novelist who wrote her most famous works while living on the island. Reservations can be made until September at the latest: after that date, you’ll have to wait until next year to take advantage of more clement weather!
