The ocean holds many mysteries! The proof is in this new giant squid, which was caught 300km west of the Irish coast, by the trawler Cú na Mara, an Irish fishing boat run by the Flannery family. A squid of unusual dimensions, at 5.5 metres long! The latter is said to have been caught in the boat’s nets, creating a real surprise among the crew!
Yet this isn’t the Flannery’s first exceptional catch: last month, the crew caught a squid of similar dimensions. A rare occurrence, and astonishing when you consider how discreet these strange creatures are! The proof: only 7 specimens of this size have been caught in Irish waters in 350 years!
“When we opened the net, we couldn’t believe our eyes, there was another one. The guys were really excited. What are the chances of getting two in a year?” explains Patrick Flannery, captain of the Irish trawler.”
