Ireland: the country is increasingly affected by Christmas sweater fever!

As Christmas approaches, the Irish are deeply attached to tradition. Holly wreaths hung on doors, tree decorations, local Christmas markets… In short, you’ll be able to succumb to the magic of the festive season in no time!

But that was without counting on a new tradition that’s spreading like wildfire across the country: ugly Christmas sweaters.

Far from being confined to Ireland, this phenomenon is converting Europeans and Americans alike. The concept? Get together with family and friends, and wear the most hideous sweater you can find… a themed sweater to remind you of Christmas.

And what could be better than for the Irish to go to the pub to share it with everyone, challenge people with their latest find, and laugh together at these sartorial atrocities?

Because let’s face it: the Irish seem particularly inspired by this new trend! Knitted reindeer, 3D sweaters, kitschy or humorous motifs… Knitted Santa going to the toilet, reindeer blowing his nose, sweater with integrated LEDs… No stone is left unturned, and the Irish demonstrate a magnificent sense of creativity!

So don’t be surprised if you come across lots of atrociously ugly Christmas sweaters at this time of year: the Irish are all about tradition, and showing just how good they are at self-deprecation!

Don’t hesitate to play too: this tradition, far from being in good taste, at least has the advantage of making people smile, and bringing them together!
