Each part of the house is tastefully furnished, mixing period and modern furniture, while paying a vibrant tribute to the history of the place, and its deep connection with the ocean.

The icing on the cake is that the property has 300 meters of shoreline, a yard with a boatyard, a double garage, a boathouse and a slipway, offering access to Ballisadare Bay.

History of the Dromard guardhouse

If you find the place appealing, it’s worth finding out more about its history. The property dates from the late 19th century. The station was built to accommodate 4 boatmen and an officer, as well as their respective families.

Unfortunately, the property was destroyed by fire in 1919. It remained in this state for over 40 years, with only the stone walls and masonry surviving.

But that was without counting on an Irish-American architect, who bought the property from the Irish government in the 1960s. Seduced by the site’s potential, he undertook a vast restoration campaign, rebuilding the watchtower and the main officer’s quarters.

A German hotelier completed the restoration in the 1980s.

However, the house was modernized in the 2000s before the current owners added more modern elements, making old and new coexist.
