Did you know? Ireland’s Clare Island lighthouse is now for sale! A true historical and tourist institution, this lighthouse is located on Clare Island in County Mayo. Over 217 years old, it was converted a few years ago into a high-end accommodation facility. But it seems that after 12 years in business, the owners want to hand over the reins… to new buyers!

Clare Island lighthouse, a site steeped in history!

An exceptional place, far from being affordable!

Built in 1806 by John Denis Browne, the First Marquess of Sligo, the Clare Island Lighthouse is located on Clare Island, an island famous for having been the stronghold of the great Irish pirate, Grace O’Malley (1530-1603).

This magnificent lighthouse served as a navigational beacon for almost 159 years, before being decommissioned in 1965.

Since then, it has been bought by owners who have converted it into one of the finest places to stay in the whole of Ireland! He suggested spending the night here, within the walls of the lighthouse and its outbuildings, to enjoy an exceptional setting overlooking the ocean!

Comfortable and cosy, with a top-of-the-range welcome, it’s a haven of peace and tranquillity, perfect for an unusual stay close to the Atlantic!

Unfortunately, after 12 years of activity, the owners have announced their wish to sell the lighthouse.

As for the price, it’s outrageous, but in keeping with the property: 2.9 million euros! The lighthouse will be available from the end of September and offers numerous opportunities for future owners. So, for the real estate agency in charge of the sale, this lighthouse can be kept as it is to continue its accommodation services… but it can also be converted into a thalasso center, therapeutic treatments, restaurant or water sports center…

The lighthouse comprises several buildings, including two towers, outbuildings and completely refurbished janitor’s quarters. The site also boasts a heliport, handy in case of emergency, but also for wealthy users wishing to disembark on the island by helicopter!

Enough to give you ideas, or simply to make you dream!
