Famed Irish actor Michael Gambon died on Thursday, September 28, 2023 of pneumonia. He was 82 years old. The Dublin-born actor was best known for his role as Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” film saga. However, his career is not limited to Hogwarts magic.

It’s a sad day for British-Irish cinema: actor Michael Gambon, born in Dublin in 1940, has passed away. Hospitalized, he succumbed to pneumonia, surrounded by his family.

The man leaves behind a great void. Michael Gambon played the great Dumbledore in Harry Potter. A starring role that earned him international renown, alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

But Gambon’s career goes back much further, to when he started out on the stage. Among other things, he was a leading member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has performed in many classic plays. In 1987, he even won a Laurence Olivier Award for his role in “A Chorus of Disapproval”.
