Be careful if you want to take a stroll along the Irish beaches! The coasts of green Ireland are currently exposed to a veritable invasion of Physalia phyalis, a type of venomous jellyfish whose attack can be fatal to humans.
This creature, also known as the “Portuguese Galley” or “Sea Bladder”, is invading the Irish coast due to the high tides that have been occurring since October 1.
We recommend that you exercise extreme caution if you come across one: although it’s quite pretty, never approach it or even touch it. Don’t go near it!
This creature is particularly venomous, causing numerous symptoms such as muscle pain, respiratory discomfort, acute hemolytic crisis and kidney failure. In some cases, it can even lead to death.
The Irish government is therefore advising tourists, swimmers, surfers, divers and kite-surfers to avoid the waters during this period. In the meantime, many professionals are trying to clean the beaches of this strange animal.
