Every year, on November 5th to be precise, the phenomenon takes on a new dimension! Yesterday wasNational Love Your Red Hair Day, a day entirely dedicated to the joy of being a redhead! It’s a fun concept that puts a minority part of the world’s population in the spotlight!

The principle of the day was simple: be proud of your hair color, and assert it through outdoor activities, as well as by posting photos on social networks.

On Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, thousands of redheads from Ireland, Scotland and the rest of the world posted photos of themselves, using the hashtag #LoveYourRedHairDay. Babies, children, adults… It’s a way of showing pride, and dismantling all the prejudices surrounding this shimmering hair color.

Even celebrities are getting in on the act: Prince Harry, Ed Sheeran…etc.!

“Being a redhead is more than a color, it’s a way of life”.

After all, red hair is a largely minority color: it’s estimated that between 1% and 2% of the world’s population are redheads! In fact, Ireland is the 2nd country in the world with the highest concentration (10% of the population). Scotland is home to the highest proportion.

This peculiarity has long generated a series of prejudices and other discriminations surrounding this color. This worldwide day puts an end to caricatures and promotes this magnificent color!
