Every year, Northern Ireland is the scene of the marvellous Northern Lights, coloring the sky in every possible way. And last night was no exception! Thanks to a marked increase in solar activity, all the atmospheric conditions were ripe for some magnificent aurora borealis!
This Thursday evening was an eagerly-awaited moment for astrology and starry-sky enthusiasts! Beautiful aurora borealis were spotted in Northern Ireland, in some of the most remote areas, and especially those least polluted by human light sources.
The result was an exceptional sky, dappled with blue, purple, red and green!
The show, though fleeting, lasted for several hours, delighting photographers and enthusiasts alike!
It’s not the first time Northern Ireland has witnessed this kind of show. The Northern Lights are particularly common in the north of the globe. Northern Ireland’s geographical location makes it a perfect spot for this kind of spectacle, as do its Norwegian, Icelandic and Swedish counterparts.
Foreign travelers, who had come especially for the occasion, were delighted:
Northern Ireland is our favorite playground for the Northern Lights! From October/November onwards, we watch for scientific bulletins to go “hunting” for them. Tonight’s aurora borealis is simply exceptional! said Anthony, an Italian with a passion for the sky. We’re already looking forward to the next ones!
One thing’s for sure: Northern Ireland has a lot to offer… both on earth and in the sky!
