The end of the Outlander series. The show’s heroine, Caitríona Balfe, was keen to thank her fans at the announcement of the show’s forthcoming end. The woman who plays Claire on screen expressed her gratitude after learning that the series would be given a final eighth season, and would not be renewed. A shock for fans, who until then had been used to following the adventures of Claire and James Fraser!
Now it’s official. After several successful years, the Outlander series is about to hang up its gloves… and close the chapter on the adventures of Claire and James Fraser…
But rest assured: season seven has not yet aired, and an eighth season is currently in preparation! There’s plenty of time to enjoy a few more episodes before the ultimate finale.
However, the show’s production was keen to make an official statement:
“Outlander”, the historical drama starring Caitríona Balfe as a World War II nurse who time-travels to 1743 and falls in love with a Highland warrior, will conclude after season eight.
A statement that is already preparing us for the imminent end of the program!
As a reminder, the series has been delighting as well as challenging audiences since 2014. Adapted from the novel by Diana Gabaldon, it tells the unusual story of a young 19th-century woman who travels back in time and has a passionate affair with a Highlander (played by Sam Heughan).

A veritable historical fresco, the story takes place successively in Scotland, France and America… A choice that allows the series to explore ever more fascinating subjects, without ever running out of steam!
And Caitríona Balfe, the Irish actress who stars alongside Sam Heughan, expressed her shared sadness and joy at the news of the series’ scheduled end:
It’s a bittersweet but also very exciting feeling to be able to continue this journey for an 8th and final season,” wrote Caitríona Balfe on Instagram.
It’s been a gift beyond my wildest dreams… brought me lifelong friendships, elevated me as an actress and as a person. Now we can prepare for another season and finish it off properly for all our incredible fans.Thank you for joining us on this magical journey.
A statement made on Instagram, and one that salutes the quality of the series, as well as the unfailing assiduity of the show’s fans. After all, Outlander is a program that immediately won over audiences and critics alike, racking up one award after another!
Although Outlander is in its final hours, production company Starz intends to continue the adventure with a prequel. Called “Outlander: Blood of my Blood”, the show is set to go back in time and focus on the lives of James Fraser’s parents.
The story of Brian and Ellen Fraser “will explore the theme of love in an age when it is considered a luxury and marriages are entered into strategically, often for political or financial gain,” says a press release.
A pitch that promises a series in the same vein as the original.
No casting or shooting announcements have been made as yet, but Starz is already actively working on the project! There’s no doubt that the prequel will find its audience, including fans of the early Outlander series!
