After struggling following their defeat against Japan, Ireland has gotten back on track by defeating Russia with a commanding score of 35 to 0. This result is not surprising given the Russian team’s challenges when facing rugby powerhouses.
The Russians gave their all, opting for an offensive strategy and playing an aggressive, tenacious game. However, the Irish, without pushing too hard, dominated the match, scoring 5 tries and securing the attacking bonus point.
The Shamrock XV, without dazzling, has thus revived their campaign by reclaiming the top spot in Pool A, ahead of Japan. This position could still change depending on the performances of Samoa and Japan in the coming days.
Jonathan Sexton and his teammates will need to replicate this performance against Samoa to have a chance at qualifying for the quarter-finals.
