Who said Irish gastronomy didn’t exist? Six Irish restaurants have just been awarded seven Michelin stars at last night’s Michelin Awards ceremony in London.

It’s a real feat, and a testament to the talent of Irish chefs!

For example, Aimsir restaurant, which opened its doors at the Cliff at Lyons Hotel in Kildare just four months ago, has just won 2 stars in one go. A very pleasant surprise for chef Jordan Bailey, who works there:

With our recent opening, we never thought Aimsir would be on the Michelin Guide’s radar this year. It was a huge surprise and we’re grateful that the Michelin Guide took the time to visit us so quickly.

But the Kinsale restaurant isn’t the only one to have caused a stir in Ireland. Other establishments also received awards, including :

  • The Oak Room, located at Adare Manor in Limerick (1 star)
  • The Greenhouse in Dublin’s Dawson Street has doubled its number of stars
  • Variety Jones, in Thomas Street, Dublin (1 star)
  • Bastion in Kinsale (1 star)
  • Muddlers in Belfast (1 star)

These beautiful establishments should see their booking books explode over the next few days!

These awards bring the total number of stars in Ireland to 18 – three two-star restaurants and 15 one-star restaurants!

It’s been a fantastic year for the Republic of Ireland. Five new Michelin stars have been awarded. This brings the total number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Ireland to 18, and rewards the determination of young chefs to make their mark on the Irish gastronomic scene,” said Rebecca Burr, Director of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland.
