After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the city of Belfast is planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day too! And it’s already promising more than 11 days of grandiose celebrations, starting on March 10, 2022. The program promises to be a fun one, with a special St. Patrick’s Day carnival, traditional Irish music with a “Féile Trad Trail” (a sort of introductory course taking in a number of music sessions), concerts…etc.

Saint Patrick 2022 in Belfast

Program overview

After Dublin, it’s Belfast’s turn to announce the program of festivities. And they also promise a spectacular show.

After two years of not being able to hold our usual St. Patrick’s Day event, I’m really delighted that it’s back this year, bigger and better than ever,” said Belfast Mayor Kate Nicholl.

Planned events include a live concert on March 16, a carnival parade, a traditional music trail and a community event.

As UNESCO City of Music, music will play a major role this year, with a Féile Trad Trail from March 10 and a St. Patrick’s Day concert at Custom House Square. This year’s concert promises to be a family-friendly affair featuring authentic local talent. And, on St. Patrick’s Day itself, I’d love to lead the Beat Carnival parade, and I can’t wait to see the city come alive with color. declared the town’s mayor.

A free family concert will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at Custom House Square, from 5 to 9 pm. It will feature some of Ireland’s finest talent, with duo Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill, rising star Tolü Makay and experimental folk artist Joshua Burnside.

Also on hand will be flute player Brian Finnegan and the Duncairn Creative Collective, a group of over 20 independent Irish musicians.

As for the parade, Beat Carnival director David Boyd has declared that the new parade will be a spectacle of creativity, fun and challenge.

Other events will also be taking place throughout the 11 days in the city:

We’ll be organizing a wide range of musical sessions, concerts and workshops. We’ll also be offering a Féile Trad – where bars, restaurants, hotels and popular places to visit will be bathed in traditional Irish music.

The St George’s market will also be taking part, with traditional music performances taking place every day from March 18 to 20. Shopping has never been so much fun!

Tickets for the St. Patrick’s Day concert are free and will be available at www.visitbelfast.com from 10am on Thursday March 3.
