Shooting resumes on The Last Duel! On this occasion, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have just returned to Ireland. Currently numbering around fourteen at Dalkey, the latter are preparing to restart their scenes under Ridley Scott’s direction. They will star Jodie Comer and Adam Driver. What a program!
All of Dalkey rejoiced at the news: Matt Damon is back in the Irish village. As a reminder, this is not the first time the actor has stayed here. The latter had been on location earlier this year to start filming The Last Duel. Unfortunately, COVID-19 and containment had forced him to interrupt the project. At the time, he was obliged to undergo on-site confinement, an experience he described as marvellous. The locals had taken a liking to him, and would regularly come across him in the vicinity, while he was jogging, shopping, or taking a dip on the Dalkey coast.
For now, Matt Damon returns to finish what he started. Currently in quarantine at Wicklow’s Powerscourt Hotel, he’s looking forward to quickly shooting his planned scenes.
It has to be said that “The Last Duel” is one of the big Hollywood projects of the moment. Highly anticipated, it will recount an episode in the history of France during the 14th century. The pitch: a man returns from war against the British and learns that his wife has been raped by his best friend in his absence. Feeling betrayed, the soldier appeals to the King of France to demand a duel to the death, pitting him against his former friend.
This promises a climactic confrontation, where friendship and hatred coexist in destructive passion. By the way, Ben Affleck seems unrecognizable on the set: dyed blond for the film’s needs, it’s hard to recognize him!
The film will tell a story supposedly set in France. However, some of the filming will take place in Ireland (as opposed to 2 months in France). The reason: the incredible beauty of the Irish landscape. It has to be said that the country still has many wild and uninhabited areas. A unique spot to tell a medieval story!
