After more than a century, the Titanic is still the talk of the town. Her dramatic story and terrible shipwreck have always fascinated many people… And we may well hear more about it with “Titanic II”.
It all started with an Australian billionaire by the name of Clive Palmer: fascinated by the liner’s history, he set himself the mad project of building a life-size replica of the ship. Called Titanic II, it will be faithful in every way to the original ship (with a modern twist, but cleverly concealed, and with far more safety equipment than the original Titanic).
The ship will set sail on its maiden voyage from Dubai to Southampton, then on to New York.
A completely mad project, costing over 500 million dollars, which was unfortunately interrupted in 2015 following a financial dispute with China, but which has just been resumed. It will set sail in 2022, offering passengers an extraordinary experience: a crossing in a setting worthy of the 1910s. It’s a crossing that should make any history buff’s dreams come true!
On the program: backdrops faithful to the first boat. Titanic II is set to use the same sets as James Cameron’s film, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet. Same settings, same codes… Only the construction processes will change: Titanic II will be built in China, unlike Titanic I, which was built in Northern Ireland, at the Belfast shipyard.
As for safety, the boat will have a welded hull (not riveted), and will be fitted with all modern navigation equipment (radars, engines, etc.). The chimneys on the liners will be reproduced, but for decorative purposes only.
The boat will offer no fewer than 835 rooms, divided into 3 classes. Only the 3rd class will see their rooms get a little more comfort.
For the time being, no price has yet been announced for reserving a place on board.
The project is already causing a stir, and even controversy. While many are enthusiastic about the project, others criticize the billionaire for the indecent nature of the approach… Awakening such bad memories seems questionable…
