Incredible but true: Ireland is not the world’s biggest Guinness consumer! There are other countries that have literally taken Irish beer and made it one of their most popular beverages! Here’s a list of the countries most addicted to Guinness… Teasing: you’re in for a surprise!

Yes, you read that right! The UK is the country where Guinness is most popular! The British have taken to eating it almost daily.

It has to be said that a Guinness brewery was established on English soil in 1936… Since then, the British have acquired a taste for their pint of“black stuff. More than a million pints are sold every day.

A score that puts them at the top of the world rankings!

2. Nigeria

This too is a surprise! Nigeria consumes more Guinness than Ireland! The African country has become the world’s second-largest market for Irish beer. This beverage has been marketed in Nigeria since 1827.

But be warned: Guinness is drunk there in an encapsulated glass bottle. No pint, no pressurized service, no can. Here, Guinness is drunk the old-fashioned way, by the neck or by the glass.

Such was the local success that Guinness Nigeria, a subsidiary of Diageo Plc, had to be set up in 1962. At the same time, a brewery was even built in Ikeja, in the heart of Lagos.

This brewery was the first Guinness operation outside Ireland and Great Britain. Other breweries were opened over time: the Ogba brewery in 1963 and the Benin City brewery in 1973.

3. Ireland

Here we are at last! Ireland is the third biggest Guinness consumer in the world. It is estimated that Irish beer accounts for a quarter of all beers sold in Ireland. A staggering figure!

It has to be said that the Irish are very attached to this made-in-Ireland beverage. People are used to consuming it almost daily, but also to using it in their recipes!

A true success story, to which the Irish are very attached!

4. United States

Did you know? The United States has a large Irish community, the result of emigration following the Great Famine. This has helped to make the USA the world’s fourth biggest consumer!

Because the Irish have succeeded in establishing their culture on American soil. As a result, the Diageo Group has also built breweries in America, which produce Guinness dark and lager beers. As a result, there are countless American Irish pubs proudly displaying Irish beer pumps.

The icing on the cake: the brewery tries its hand at producing beers found nowhere else! Flavored beers, which are finding an enthusiastic audience in the States!

5. Cameroon

It may surprise you that two African countries appear on the list, but around 40% of the world’s total volume of Guinness is brewed and sold on this continent. A brewery has also been set up in Cameroon, and Irish beer is one of the country’s most popular drinks!

But beware: the local Guinness is said to taste slightly different from the beer brewed in Ireland!
