If you like atypical sports that are full of thrills and spills, then we recommend you try bog-snorkelling, a brand new sport that’s proving a big hit in Ireland! The principle is simple: it’s all about speed, right in the middle of a swampy peat bog! A bit dirty, you might say, but the Irish love it!
Bog-snorkelling is usually done in a swimsuit, wetsuit, fins, mask and snorkel. They must then reach the finish line as quickly as possible, without making any classic swimming movements.
But the difficulty level can be increased! So don’t be surprised if you find participants equipped with lead-weighted bicycles: they have to push their bikes through the muddy water! Just the thing to spice up the competition!
In Ireland, this highly original sport is a great success in the Galway region. It has to be said that the county, rich in peat bogs, is a fabulous playground for participants! Don’t hesitate to attend this kind of sporting event: you can cheer on the participants, and even dive into the peat bog if you feel like it!
