Canoeing has a special place in Ireland! Rich in adrenaline, it’s ideal for those who aren’t afraid of getting wet, and who aren’t too cold! It has to be said that Ireland alone is a veritable playground for this sport: its countless lakes are proof of this! What’s more, it’s an excellent way of discovering Ireland by water, while being sure to get some exercise!

Where to go canoeing?

Although you can canoe just about anywhere in Ireland (unless there are specific regulations), the Lake District is undoubtedly the best place to canoe!

Situated in County Fermanagh, the Lake District offers a wealth of lakes and rivers to give you a thrill and adrenalin rush.

Among the most beautiful spots, we recommend Upper Lake and Lower Lake, as well as more than 154 islands to discover by force of arms! It’s an opportunity to plunge into the heart of unsuspected beauty, the secret of which can only be found in wild Ireland!

In any case, the Fermanagh region is teeming with water sports centres where you can hire the necessary equipment. Canoe, lifejacket, paddles, helmet…a short 15-minute briefing is all it takes to get you started!

Whether you’re traveling alone or accompanied (water sports centers offer group excursions), expect to pay between €45 and €80 for a half-day’s canoeing.

Be careful, however, not to venture into corners where the rapids are too violent: don’t hesitate to start gently, without ever compromising your safety! Also, always follow the safety instructions given by your instructor: you’ll enjoy the ride all the more!
