Products prohibited in carry-on baggage

Passage de la sécurité à l'aéroport - Chalabala

Are you planning to fly to Ireland and would like to travel with a carry-on suitcase? It’s not always easy to know what you can put in it without being bothered by airport security! Here’s a short list of products that are permitted and prohibited in carry-on baggage!

Authorized products

Keep your fragile and electronic items with you!

Most airlines advise you to pack any valuables in your carry-on bag that may be fragile or essential to your trip. So don’t hesitate to keep :

  • your laptops, cameras, phones, etc.
  • your medication,
  • your papers (passport, identity card),
  • your means of payment
  • your medication (with your prescription if you need proof).

Storing all these items in your cabin baggage will save you a lot of hassle in the event of loss, theft or damage to your checked baggage.

Prohibited products

Avoid liquids and sharp objects!

Safety on aircraft is becoming increasingly important in the current climate. You’ll also need to follow a number of safety instructions, such as avoiding carrying certain products and objects that are considered dangerous.

Airlines will categorically refuse to accept any prohibited items in your cabin baggage, and will ask you to place them in your hold baggage. Here is an overview of items prohibited in the cabin:

  • liquids
  • aerosols,
  • gels or pasty substances (shampoo, water, drinks, shower gel, mascara, soup, syrups, toothpaste, liquid soaps, deodorants, etc.)
  • sharp objects (scissors, knives, nail files, etc.).
  • lighters and combustibles,
  • battery with electrolyte,
  • fireworks,
  • firecrackers
  • Bengal fires,
  • distress rockets,
  • dummy pistols,
  • firelighters,
  • tear gas,
  • camping stoves, gas bottles, diving bottles,
  • paint, varnish, lacquer,
  • toxic materials, infectious materials, radioactive materials, chemicals, fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides, insecticides, paint strippers, bleach, chlorine, lye, flammable liquids, thinner, solvent, acetone, mercury thermometers, barometers…
  • …etc.

Exceptions

Note, however, that the purchase of liquids after the security check is free, subject to customs restrictions.

Since 2006, there have been restrictions on liquids and gels in cabin baggage: they must be placed in a transparent, closed bag (“freezer bag” type) measuring no more than 20 cm x 20 cm. Purchases made in airport stores must be placed in a sealed plastic bag by your sales assistant. Please note: not all stores offer this bag. Ask before you buy.
