Stand up paddle in Ireland

A sport for the whole family!

Stand Up Paddle (or SUP) can be practiced all over Ireland, on beaches with a little shelter.

The concept is simple and user-friendly, and involves paddling upright on the board to explore the surrounding area. You’ll need to rent a simple board (like a surfboard), a paddle, a lifejacket, and of course don’t forget to bring along your best swimsuit (a wetsuit may be necessary if the water is too cold)!

You’ll find rental outlets in Ireland’s main seaside resorts, not far from beaches and other Stand Up Paddle spots.

It’s a fun sport that’s great for your balance and arms! But be careful not to venture too far: stand-up paddling can be a physical sport in strong currents! We therefore recommend that you practice in groups, in marked and protected areas, sheltered from the waves.

Let’s not forget: stand-up paddling can only be practised in calm weather, without swell: otherwise your balance would be more than difficult to maintain!

So it’s best to practice this water sport in good weather, on a day when the sea or ocean is calm. Choose the period from June to September for maximum pleasure!

Don’t hesitate to ask your Irish rental company for advice!
