It’s not always easy to think of everything when it comes to packing for a trip to Ireland! What clothes should I take? Which products? And above all: which shoes? Whether you’re a walker or a stroller, your choice of footwear will largely condition your trip! It’s better to be well-equipped than to lug around unsuitable footwear! Here are a few tips on how to put the right “grolles” in your bag!
If you’re planning to discover Ireland on foot, but don’t want to push yourself too hard or go commando, then sneakers seem to be the most appropriate choice for your type of trip. Flexible and lightweight, they allow you to stroll without straining, and cover medium distances with a certain degree of comfort… whether you’re in town or out in the countryside!
Choose lightweight, calf-hugging sneakers that are waterproof yet breathable, to keep out the rain and humidity without being bothered by the heat.
Good socks are recommended for comfort.
If, however, you’d like to do more walking in Ireland, then we recommend you opt for real walking shoes.
Although a little heavier than traditional sneakers, they feature a lugged sole, ideal for gripping the ground and avoiding slipping. These shoes should be slightly high to protect your ankles from twisting, and should be stiffened on the outside to protect your feet.
When it comes to socks, choose thick ones: they’ll save your feet from fatigue, chafing and blisters.
