Photo enthusiasts who aren’t afraid to experiment with SLRs or hybrids will undoubtedly be tempted to take all their lenses with them, so as to be able to respond to every situation. In this article, we give you advice on how to avoid unnecessary burdens, and how to find the most versatile lens or lenses for your photographic needs!

What photo lenses?

Don’t overload yourself unnecessarily: think flexibility and efficiency!

When it comes to photography, we all tend to overload our bags for fear of running out of material. It’s a normal anxiety that’s completely understandable, but it won’t have any mercy on your back! It has to be said that photographic equipment generally weighs a lot, and experience often shows that you’ll never use all the lenses you bring with you.

So which lens should you choose?

Our answer is simple: it all depends on the type of photo you want to take.

Generally speaking, Ireland lends itself to thousands of photographic possibilities. But generally speaking, amateurs come here to shoot landscapes, as well as a few portraits…

Landscape photography: go for the wide angle!

For landscapes, the wider the angle of your lens, the better. We also recommend a lens between 10 and 35mm, which will give you plenty of scope for panorama shots! (Beware, however, of photo distortion with ultra-wide-angle lenses).

If possible, opt for fixed focal lengths, which are often brighter than telephoto lenses. If you can’t do otherwise, it’s also handy to have a zoom to better adapt to your shot.

Portrait photography

To best immortalize faces, we recommend lenses between 35 and 50mm, which often give excellent results. The ideal lens would be 40mm, which is as close as possible to human vision.

Once again, opt for wide-aperture lenses for bright, vivid colors.

Photo lens constraints

Height and weight: take care not to poison your vacations!

No need to invest in an imposing lens that will need its own bag. Unless you’re a real professional photographer, amateur photographers will be happy with lenses that don’t take up much space or weight.

What about the airport?

At the airport, we advise you not to pack your camera equipment in your hold luggage. You’ll also need a good photo bag, which you can take with you as cabin baggage.

There are no safety restrictions on taking your SLR and lens on board. Nevertheless, security will almost certainly ask you to take your equipment out of the bag during the X-ray check. Nothing to worry about.
