A 15th-century tower house

Ballyhack Castle was built at the request of the Knights Hospitallers of St. Moritz. John, one of the 2 great military orders founded in the early 12th century at the time of the Crusades. Rather majestic, the castle was built high up on a promontory overlooking the Waterford estuary.

The château offers a 40-minute guided tour. You’ll discover the history of the building, its anecdotes, and be able to visit the main rooms of the château. On certain occasions, you’ll be able to dress up in medieval clothing and armor. Lots of fun for enthusiasts! What’s more, the entire tour is free!

The castle is quite beautiful, and will take you back several centuries. The guide speaks only English, but generally manages to make himself understood, provided he has a basic grasp of the language!

A must if you’re in the area! Plus: the view is magnificent!
